Food Bank of Northeast Louisiana

Jerllisa Elzy (L) and Jean Toth (R)

Jerllisa: "The main thing is that SNAP just provides so many families with meals that they wouldn’t be able to get on a daily basis. So, it’s just beneficial being out here helping families that need meals. I mean, you see the faces of these individuals everyday and people come in crying to me. You know, it’s heart wrenching to know they’re scared that they won’t be able to feed their children. So yes, it’s very important."

Jean: "I think the role of food banks and charitable groups is to fill in the gaps. I consider SNAP and other government programs as the first thing made available for people. The charitable response to helping people when they fall through the cracks is the second line of defense."
